Bitner Training Offers Several Firearms Related Classes and will be adding additional classes in the future.
NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting Course:
The NRA Basics of Pistol Shooting is a two-part course consisting of an e-learning portion (completed online-in your own timeframe) and a hands-on practical portion conducted at a range under the guidance and supervision of an NRA-Certified Instructor. The course is intended for all adults regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA-affiliation.
Some of the topics in the course include: gun safety rules, proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols, ammunition knowledge and selection, selecting and storing a pistol, the fundamentals of shooting, and pistol inspection and maintenance. When you enroll in the online course, you create a personal identification number (PIN). When you successfully complete the course, printing your certificate activates that PIN. The activated PIN allows you to register for the instructor-led training portion of the course. During the instructor-led-training portion of the course, an NRA Certified Instructor will validate comprehension and application of gun safety rules; range protocol; proper handling; loading and unloading procedures; application of pistol shooting fundamentals; stable shooting positions; live fire; and a final shooting qualification.
Once you have completed the e-learning portion of the course, you may call me at 816-914-5119 or email me at teddybitner@aol.com to schedule a range date to complete the qualification portion of the course. The hands-on portion of the course is $75. You may bring your own firearm and ammunition (minimum 100 rounds), or you can use one of our firearms, but request you bring at least 100 rounds of good quality.22 long rifle of standard or high velocity.
NRA First Steps Rifle Orientation: NRA FIRST Steps Rifle is designed to provide a hands-on introduction to the safe handling and proper orientation to one specific rifle action type for classes of four or fewer students. This course is at least three hours long and includes classroom and range time learning to shoot a specific rifle action type. Students will learn the NRA’s rules for safe gun handling; the particular rifle model parts and operation; ammunition; shooting fundamentals; cleaning the rifle; and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the Basics of Rifle Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, FIRST Steps Course completion certificate. Maximum number of students is four (4). This class is $80.
NRA Personal Protection in the Home Course: NRA Basic Personal Protection In The Home (PPIH) course is for law-abiding adult citizens, as defined by applicable federal, state, or local law, and experienced shooters (shooters able to show mastery of the basic skills of safe gun handling, shooting a group, zeroing the firearm, and cleaning the firearm) to maximize what can be learned from this course. Proof of shooting experience can be one of the following: NRA Basic Pistol Course Certificate, NRA FIRST Steps Course Certificate, NRA pistol competitive shooting qualification card, military DD 214 with pistol qualification, or passing the Pre-Course Assessment.
This is an eight-hour course. Students should expect to shoot approximately 100 rounds of ammunition. Students will learn basic defensive shooting skills, strategies for home safety and responding to a violent confrontation, firearms and the law, how to choose a handgun for self-defense, and continued opportunities for skill development. Students will receive the NRA Guide to the Basics of Personal Protection In The Home handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, the Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, and course completion certificate. This class is $100.
NRA Refuse To Be A Victim (Registered Trademark) Course: Refuse To Be A Victim was developed in response to women nationwide who requested crime prevention and personal safety information. Today, Refuse To Be A Victim’s life-saving message is carried to hometowns throughout America and abroad by a dedicated group of certified instructors, through personalized training, publications, and via the Internet. The program directly addresses the goal of promoting both public safety and law and order. This is NOT a firearms related course. This seminar is $15 per student.
Intermediate Handgun Handling Class: This course is designed to develop skills beyond the statutory requirements of a concealed carry (CCW / CCHL) course including basic developmental drills, malfunction drills, drawing from concealment, one handed weapons handling, close contact shooting, and challenging scenarios that can be used by students to build safety, speed and accuracy into their gun handling kitbag. Maximum number of students is 4 (four). This is NOT a NRA approved course. This class is $100.
Tactical Handgun. This course is designed to enhance skills learned in a basic (NRA or CCW) course. The course incorporates classroom, dry-fire scenario, and live fire scenerio components including: one hand malfunction clearing, drawing and engaging from various positions and locations, extensive shoot/no-shoot scenarios, and live fire drills. This is a 12 hour class offered over a 2 day period. This is NOT a NRA approved course. Cost is $150.
Missouri Concealed Carry Course: This is a 9.5 hour course designed to meet the requirements of RSMo 571-111. The course covers the ten required subject areas including handgun safety, loading and unloading, basic principals of marksmanship, care and maintenance of firearms, safe storage, requirements for obtaining an concealed carry permit, laws relating to firearms and justification/use of force, firearms proficiency on the range, and range qualification. Students are issued a training certificate upon qualification and course completion which may be used to apply for a concealed carry permit with the appropriate sheriff's office. Maximum number of students is eight (8). This is NOT a NRA approved course. This class is $80. You may bring your own firearm(s) (revolver and semi-automatic) and ammunition (minimum 50 rounds for each firearm, or a total of 100 rounds), or you can use our firearms, but request you bring at least 100 rounds of good quality.22 long rifle of standard or high velocity. Please bring only factory loaded ammunition. Reloads will not be allowed on the range.
Kansas Concealed Carry Handgun Licensing (CCHL) Course: This 8.5 hour course is designed to meet the requirements of the Kansas Attorney General for CCHL qualification. This CCHL course is a firearms safety course, designed to teach the basics of gun safety, marksmanship, maintenance and familiarization, as well as legal issues related to the use of deadly physical force. Upon completion of the course, you will receive materials and documentation necessary to apply for a concealed carry handgun license in the state of Kansas. Maximum number of students is eight (8). This is NOT a NRA approved course. This class is $80. You may bring your own firearm and ammunition (minimum 50 rounds), or you can use one of our firearms, but request you bring at least 50 rounds of good quality.22 long rifle of standard or high velocity. Please note that Kansas statutes require that only factory ammunition be used (reloads will not be allowed on the range).
Indivudal Instruction. From time to time, students may wish tailored instruction designed to meet specific needs. If you are interested in this option, contact us. This type of training typically lasts about two hours. Fee will be $35 per hour plus range fee.
* For CCW and NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Courses, we provide firearms for you to use, or you may use your own. The specific course flyer will specify the amount of ammunition you will need to bring with you for each course.

Classroom instruction is conducted on the campus of Calvary University, 15770 Elmwood Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64147
Range instruction is conducted at the Trainer’s Indoor Range, Trainer’s Indoor Range, 8201 East 23rd Street, KCMO 64129
Please note that all classes require a $25 deposit. All deposits must be recieved not later than 3 days prior to the start of the class. Classes are filled in the order that deposits are received. You will only be contacted if the registration and deposit are received after a class is full. In the event that a registration form and deposit is received after your chosen class date has been filled, you will be given the choice of alternate available class dates or a deposit refund.
